Box-to-box midfielder Luke returned to United during June 2015, having spent the 2014/15 season with Barnsley in League One.

A product of the U’s celebrated youth development scheme, he served his apprenticeship as a scholar before making a first-team debut against Salisbury in April 2010. Excelling with work-rate and desire, 24-year old Luke was named Conference Premier Player of the Month in August 2013, picked up two Young Player of the Season awards during his first spell with the U’s, whilst also scoring on his England C debut against Jordan. Top scorer for United in both the 2011/12 and 2013/14 seasons, he bagged 16 goals in that latter campaign as the club secured promotion back to the Football League courtesy of a Wembley Play-off Final victory, which was Luke’s 150th appearance in black and amber. He also netted for the U’s in their FA Trophy win over Gosport six weeks earlier, at the same venue. Sold to Barnsley on the eve of the 2014/15 season, the Cambridge-born midfielder played 37 league and cup games for the Tykes, pocketing two goals, prior to arriving back at the Cambs Glass Stadium having signed a four-year deal. Luke topped the goalscoring charts for United again last term, netting an impressive thirteen times and has since scored his 50th goal for the club, during the 3-1 win over Cheltenham in November.
