Harris: We didn't go under

3 February 2024

Neil Harris couldn't hide his delight as United claimed all three points away at Shrewsbury to make it four games unbeaten for his side...

Despite falling behind early in the game, the U's picked up a first away win since August thanks to Lyle Taylor's double and a tremendous team effort to see the game out.

Speaking to the media after the match, the United boss commended his players for their performance on the day.

On a great win...

"It's been a long time coming. I can't praise the players highly enough - to come from behind in any game is difficult but the way we did it was very impressive. As much as Shrewsbury had a lot of the posession, it was in the wrong areas for me. We dictated where they had the ball and we looked a threat and could have scored more goals.

"We conceded against the run of play but we didn't go down."

On coming back from behind...

"It's something we have talked a lot about - that resilience, that determination and the leadership. The leadership of Michael Morrison, Ryan Bennett and Jordan Cousins in the middle of the park - we didn't go under and to score so quickly was imperative and it gave us that platform to build on. To score right at the start of the second half was vital as well."

On Taylor's two goals...

"The players are enjoying playing with him and I am really pleased for him to get a brace today. He is enjoying his football, enjoying his training and he has an infectious personality and leadership qualities as well.

"It was huge for him and huge for us - it not only gives us three points but it breeds confidence in the team."

On next week's upcoming tests...

"Four unbeaten, eight points - it's a great return for the group and I praise my players for it. We have got back to back home games - Bolton are a very good side and Cheltenham are a team that is scrapping so two very intriguing home games and we have earned the right now to enjoy them."
