Corr: Can't fault effort

25 February 2024

Interim Head Coach, Barry Corr was left frustrated to lose out against Peterborough United on Saturday, despite the players putting in a committed performance...

Although clearly disappointed with the outcome, Corr was encouraged to see a competitive and determined display from the team, who matched United's promotion-chasing rivals throughout the contest.

On the performance...

"You never want to lose any football match, especially against your local rivals, but you can't fault the efforts of the players. They put everything into the game.

"I said to them before that one of the things you can control is the amount of sweat on your shirt at the end of the game and the appliciton was spot on.

"It's annoying that they are a good team and they were today, but I couldn't fault any of the effort from the guys."

On facing a strong opponent...

"They were really good without the ball and Peterborough ask loads of questions of you, and maybe the work that we had to put in without the ball hindered our quality when we had our moments.

"You want to get after them but you have to pick your moments. You have to be really careful with what you leave behind, but I thought we got that fairly spot on in the first half - we applied pressure high up the pitch and not very often did they break the first line of press.

"We wanted to try and pin Peterborough in during the final stages but they made it difficult for us to do that. It takes a lot of energy but when we did regain our moments, we just lacked a bit of energy to have that quality."

On what's next...

"The players are always committed - they are a really good bunch of guys. I am really gutted that we couldn't get something today but I really appreciate the support.

"I have made a plan for the week and obviously the Club are in a process of bringing somebody in, so we will be as prepared as we can for those coming games and if it goes beyond that, we will obviously look after that as well.

"There is loads of disappointment in the changing room but we will learn from it and the focus now has to be Stevenage on Tuesday."
