Cambridge United can confirm that Greg Taylor will leave the Club this summer after 10 years with the U’s…

After joining in June 2013, Taylor departs having made 373 appearances for the Club, which leaves him as the 10th highest appearance maker in Cambridge United’s history.

A defensive stalwart, multiple promotion winner, dressing room culture-setter, captain of five years and dear friend to many, Taylor will be missed by everyone associated with the Club.

Originally signed as a left-back, Taylor’s debut season was a resounding success as he played every game in United’s promotion winning campaign from the Conference before lifting the FA Trophy at Wembley.

A mainstay throughout his time with the Club in League Two, Taylor won the 2017/18 Player of the Year before being named Captain ahead of the following season.

Taylor tasted promotion for the second time in United colours in 2020, leading the side to promotion into League One as he once again played every league game throughout the season.

A Testimonial fixture against his boyhood West Ham United followed in 2022 – a richly deserved occasion for a Club legend and one of the best people you are likely to meet in football.

Taylor said, “It’s a bitter-sweet moment for me. I am sad to be leaving a place that has become my home but I am leaving the Club in a better place than when I joined, and I am proud of the part I have played in that.

“I want to say a big thank you to everyone involved with the Club, including many who have left during this time. From the owner, directors, manager and playing staff, to the hospitality staff and matchday stewards, thank you. The support I have received from everyone has been something I won’t forget.

“To the fans, thank you for the support. I would like to think you know I have always given 100% every time I put on the shirt. There have been some great memories playing in front of a packed-out Abbey Stadium which I will always look back on."

“I will forever be a supporter of the football club and wish everyone all the best in the future.”

Mark Bonner added, "Greg Taylor has been instrumental to our successes in recent seasons and has been completely committed to the cause throughout his decade with us.

"Having worked within the First Team set up for many seasons now, he has been relied upon by multiple Head Coaches and since my appointment, has been an integral part of the team. As Captain, he helped transform our environment and team which propelled us towards promotion.
