Liam Bennett has joined Walsall FC on loan until the end of the 2022/23 season...
Fresh off signing a new contract with the U’s last month, the 20-year-old full back will join up with Michael Flynn’s side ahead of the new season. The deal includes an option to recall in January 2023.
Mark Bonner said, “We are really pleased to have agreed for Liam to join Walsall, who approached us about this possibility very soon after the conclusion of last season.
“Following a positive end to the campaign we believe this is an excellent opportunity for Liam to continue the progress he has made so far and we are thrilled that the opportunity of playing League Two football is a possibility for one of our young players.
“Liam has a good challenge ahead of him to impress his new management team and teammates to try and secure as many on-field minutes as possible in what will be a really valuable part of his long term development.”
Bennett made five Papa John’s Trophy appearances and five Sky Bet League One appearances for the U’s last season, his first with the Cambridge United First Team.
