U's set to celebrate Women's Football Weekend

21 February 2022

Cambridge United is celebrating Women’s Football Weekend on Saturday 5th March when the U’s First Team host Shrewsbury Town…

A whole host of activities and initiatives will be carried out during the day as we mark Women’s Football Weekend by celebrating our female supporters, staff and players, whilst also raising awareness of the barriers and discrimination that Women continue to face when supporting or playing for their team.

The United squad will proudly wear #HerGameToo warm-up t-shirts ahead of kick-off, as the Club continues to show its support for the ever-growing campaign that aims to create an inclusive environment in football for female fans.

Girls from the Cambridgeshire FA Advanced Coaching Centre will be Ball-Girls for the game and three lucky youngsters have been chosen as our Girls Mascot competition winners to help walk the team out and meet the players.

The Cambridge United Women’s team - who are playing at the Abbey on Sunday 27th February and Sunday 27th March - will be in attendance and introduced to the crowd at half-time and a select few players will also take part in the Half-Time Mick George Chip in the Skip Challenge.

The Matchday Programme will be packed with interviews and features about Women in Football as we dedicate the ‘United’ publication to female U’s supporters, staff and players.

Finally, local Girls grassroots sides and Cambridge United Girls teams have been invited to the game for free of charge with a minimum of one £10 paying adult.

If you run a local girls team and would like to take advantage of the offer, please email amberbelles@cambridge-united.co.uk for more information.

The Women's Football Weekend is just a small part of the Club's broader commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Read more here.
