First Team Coach Barry Corr sat down with local media prior to Cambridge United's League One clash with Oxford United on Saturday (26th February)...
On picking up two wins on the bounce:
“It was two very different games, with both teams offering us two very different challenges, however we dealt with them really well.
“You look at Accrington on Saturday – they’re a big, physical side and are incredibly dangerous from set-pieces, but we dealt with their threats well, and Tuesday’s performance against Plymouth was incredibly pleasing.
“Despite not having much of the ball, we used it well when we did have it and we nullified them really, I can’t think of many, if any, clear-cut chances they had throughout the game. It’s a testament to how well we were organised at the back.
“To put back-to-back results together is important to us. It puts us in a healthy position in the table and we’re really pleased.”
Team news:
“Joey’s [Ironside] class, he’s such a hard worker and he’s doing everything he can to get back fit. He’s progressing really well. He’s always around the group on matchdays, supporting the lads and offering advice. Hopefully he’s not too far off.
“Harrison [Dunk] had a knock on his ankle before Tuesday’s game, and he wasn’t really expected to be involved at all, but he called on Tuesday morning saying it feels a lot better, so we went from there.
“It’s so exciting having Shilow [Tracey] back within the squad, he’s such an exciting player, you can hear it in the stadium once he gets the ball.”
On Oxford:
“They had been playing a variation of a four-three-three, however have recently switched to playing with five at the back, so we have to be wary of that. It’s a Karl Robinson side at the end of the day so the principles will remain the same regardless of how they line-up.
“They’re a great side, I think Oxford away is one of the most challenging games of the season. We’re excited to see how we can get on going there.
“I personally had a good scoring record against them and it’s a nice stadium, it’s a little weird having just the three stands. I think if you were parked in the car park when I was playing you were worried!
“It’s a big challenge because they’re such a good side, and they’ve been a really good side for a few seasons now so we’re looking forward to the challenge.
“The dimensions of their pitch is bigger an others, and Karl Robinson’s sides always tend to stretch the pitch as wide as they possibly can.”
On Liam Bennett’s debut:
“I always feel quite close to Liam, having worked with him all the way through his journey since he joined. So obviously I take credit for his success!
“He’s such a good kid and he works so hard, he’s having more of a recovery day today but he’ll probably still run a marathon! He loves football and being here so it’s great to see him doing well.
“The supporters seem to have really taken to him and he’s done his chances no harm with his performance on Tuesday.”
