U's partner with Her Game Too

6 October 2021

Cambridge United is proud to become official partners of Her Game Too, a campaign which aims to create an inclusive environment in football for female fans, whilst raising awareness about the abuse women who follow football regularly face...

Her Game Too was formed in May 2021 by a group of female football supporters who shared their personal experiences of receiving sexist abuse whilst following the game that they love.

Cambridge United unequivocally supports the campaigns aim to create a world where women and girls of all ages can feel confident and safe sharing their opinion about football, both online and in real life without fear of sexist abuse.

CEO Ian Mather said, “Women should feel safe and welcome at football games, whether watching or playing. Sexist abuse or behaviour does not fit with the values of this club and we are very pleased to support the Her Game Too.”

Cambridge Fans United Trust Board Member Emma Smith said, “It means a great deal that our club has taken a stance against sexist abuse and become official partners of Her Game Too.

“It sends a positive message of support for the club’s female fans and reinforces the message that misogynistic behaviour in football is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

“After speaking with the Amber Belles about the Her Game Too campaign when it was launched, it is clear that a lot of female fans have experienced sexism at matches, both verbal and physical. I think most fans would agree this needs to be stopped.”

Co-founder of Her Game Too, Caz May said, "We are delighted to confirm a partnership with Cambridge United and to have another League One club on board.

“After speaking to Emma from the Supporters' Trust and hearing about The Amber Belles, we feel our values match perfectly with the values of the club.

“We are super excited to work with Cambridge United going forwards to create a safer space for their female fans and to encourage more women to attend matches at the Abbey Stadium."

As part of the partnership, Cambridge United will support the campaign by hosting a dedicated #HerGameToo Matchday, displaying #HerGameToo posters around the Abbey Stadium and by offering its full support to the cause.

U’s fan can call or text 07522 473291 on Matchdays to discreetly report discrimination at the Abbey Stadium.
