United for Cambridge Sleepout taking place Friday 11th February 2022

15 November 2021

Wintercomfort for the Homeless and Cambridge United Community Trust are once again joining forces to create their biggest and best sleepout event yet...

In a bid to connect the entire community in support of homeless and vulnerable people in the City, the two charities are reaching out to groups and organisations to take part in a Cambridge-wide event.

Teams from local businesses and United fans will be invited to sleepout on the terraces of The Abbey Stadium once again.

Following the success of last year's virtual sleepout, faith groups, community organisations, students and families will also be able to take part in their own secure community space by creating their own sleepout event.

On the night itself, sleepout locations across the city will be able to take part in a programme of entertainment and live-link ups to keep everyone connected. The event will see those sleeping out fundraise for Wintercomfort’s work with the homeless community and Cambridge United Community Trust’s work with vulnerable young people.

Wintercomfort’s Fundraising and Communications Manager Melody Brooker explains, "Homelessness is a serious challenge in Cambridge and we believe that as a community, we can all play a part in helping to improve the lives of those in greatest need. The United for Cambridge Sleepout Night will be a fun but poignant way to connect us all and to raise awareness and funds for these two vital local charities."

Sam Gomarsall, Cambridge United Community Trust Manager will also be taking part and said, "Having taken part in three sleepouts at the stadium previously, and one virtual sleepout earlier this year, I am looking forward to sleeping out at the stadium once again. Whilst it’s not the most comfortable night’s sleep I have each year, it’s definitely the most memorable and I would certainly encourage all U’s fans to come along and take part. You will be making a tangible difference in the lives of those most in need in our city."

Participants taking part at the Abbey are asked to fundraise at least £100. There is a £20 registration which pays for dinner and entertainment on the evening of the event.
