Shilow Tracey re-signs with U's

17 June 2021

Cambridge United is delighted to announce that Shilow Tracey has joined the Club on a permanent deal...

The 22-year-old made 16 appearances for the U’s last season after a January loan move from Tottenham Hotspur and the switch has now been made permanent with Tracey signing a two-year contract.

“I am delighted,” Tracey said. “After speaking to the Manager about re-signing, I didn’t really think twice about it. I feel like everything just fits in well with me at the Club – the players, the staff and the way we play. I can’t wait to get started now.”

Head Coach Mark Bonner said, “Shilow is a player we know well from his loan spell at the end of last season. He has electric pace, can turn defence to attack quickly, and is a constant threat for defending teams.

“We were really impressed with his work ethic and his defensive understanding and think we can improve this further as well as giving him the shot of confidence he needs to bring his best attacking qualities to the game.

“There is no doubt he has huge potential and he is now at an age where showing that is key.  I have challenged Shilow to get the best out of himself, as we try to get the best out of him, to show he can compete regularly at League One level. We believe we have an exciting attacking talent in Shilow and are pleased to have added him to our team going into the year ahead. “

“The last two seasons have been frustrating for Shilow and this gives him an opportunity now to be settled in-order to maximise his potential. He would be first to say he was disappointed with his game minutes last year having expected to come in and contribute more, however his contributions were big when he played. You only have to look at the importance of the goal at Leyton Orient and his impact on that game to see how pivotal his part in this team could be.”

Tracey is the seventh member of last season’s promotion-winning squad to re-sign with the Club, after Dimitar Mivov, Greg Taylor, Harrison Dunk, Liam O’Neil, Paul Digby and Wes Hoolahan all penned new deals.
