Harvey Knibbs has signed fresh terms with Cambridge United, extending his time with the Football Club until the end of the 2022/2023 season.
The 21-year old striker has agreed a new two year deal in addition to his existing contract which was due to end at the conclusion of the current campaign.
Knibbs, a product of Aston Villa’s academy, joined the Club at the start of the 2019/20 season following a successful trial period. He quickly went on to make his professional debut for United in dramatic style, scoring the winning penalty in a shoot-out against Championship side Brentford in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
A successful first full season in the Football League followed, with Knibbs making 31 appearances and scoring nine goals in all competitions. His late efforts against Colchester United and Bradford City earlier this year completed memorable comeback wins for the U’s, making him a popular figure with Cambridge United supporters.
And his goal against Burton Albion last week, ensured Knibbs is off the mark for this campaign, as he competes for a place in the side alongside Joe Ironside, Paul Mullin and Andy Dallas.
Pleased to have secured a longer stay at the Abbey, Knibbs commented: “I’m absolutely buzzing to have signed a new deal, because from the moment I’ve joined this Club it has felt like home.
“The Abbey, the fans, the staff have all been welcoming and it was a very easy decision for me.
“It really has been a perfect year, from making a dream debut right through to a great bunch of team mates and a manager who knows my ability and trusts me, and that’s just such a massive positive.
“I’ve signed it now and that means I can solely focus on the season ahead. Nothing will change from me in terms of work rate, it will still have to be as high as it has been to this point. To finish top goalscorer last season in my first full year felt a big achievement, but I want to continue to go from strength to strength.”
