Cambridge United CEO Ian Mather has penned a further update on the return of fans.
“In light of today’s government announcement of Cambridge being placed into Tier 2, we are delighted to confirm that, subject to SAG (Safety Advisory Group) approval, we will at long last be welcoming our supporters back to the Abbey for next Wednesday’s fixture with Mansfield Town.
Our preparation for this moment has been thorough and the experience of hosting the test event against Fulham earlier this year, means we are absolutely ready and excited to be safely opening the doors for fans at the earliest possible opportunity.
We can confirm now though, the Club will be working to a covid-safe stadium capacity that allows every one of our season ticket holders to attend, as well as a small number of non-season ticket holders. The exact figure is to be confirmed by the local Safety Advisory Group but we hope it to be in region of 2,000.
We will be finalising the finer details over the next 24 hours and will communicate the key information for our supporters tomorrow. This will include the exact process for ticketing.
Once again we re-iterate our immense gratitude to our fanbase, whose loyal support over the challenging period away from the Abbey Stadium has been unwavering. It will be a poignant moment to see them take to the stands again next week.”
