CAMBRIDGE UNITED OVERWHELMED BY FANS TAKING UP ALTERNATIVES TO REFUNDS FOR THE END OF 2019/20

Refunds Now No Longer Available

20 August 2020

Cambridge United are pleased to confirm over 90% of U’s fans opted to take up the alternative options to a refund provided by the Football Club for the final games 2019/20 campaign.

The Football Club has been overwhelmed by the number of 2019/20 season ticket holders who have decided to take up the Introduce a Friend Five Game Free Ticket, rather than take a refund for the final five home fixtures of the 2019/20 which were not able to take place due to the covid-19 outbreak.

In May, Cambridge United communicated all the options available to supporters who had either season tickets or match tickets for the remaining games of last season. Given the challenging financial circumstances that lockdown and the pandemic had presented for everyone, the Football Club fully understood the reasoning for those who required a refund for the games they had missed.

However, the Club did state it would make available the Introduce a Friend Five Game Ticket, which in the short-term would help the Club’s cash flow situation and in the long-term would allow season ticket holders to actively play a role in growing the fanbase. Cambridge United are pleased to confirm that the large majority of supporters have been willing and able to show their support towards the Club in this way.

Refunds for the final five home games of the 2019/20 season are now no longer available, and once again we would like to thank our loyal and committed supporters.

The Football Club should also make it clear that during the period in which a reduced capacity is in place at the Abbey Stadium when crowds return (currently expected to be for the start of October), it will not be possible for us to deliver the Introduce a Friend Five Game Ticket immediately. However, when crowds return in full or to a point in which Cambridge United can cater for this initiative, we absolutely intend to honour our supporter’s good will. We will communicate further in due course.

This incredible gesture and understanding from Cambridge United fans has gone a long way to ensuring the Football Club has been able to manage the challenging financial situation caused by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Earlier this week, Cambridge United released full information about 2020/21 season tickets, with 1,000 set to be put on sale from 9am Monday. Click here to read full details.
