CUFC SQUAD UPDATE

24 May 2019

FURTHER UPDATE ON CAMBRIDGE UNITED SQUAD

Following the Club recently providing the Retain/Release list at the completion of the 2018/19 Sky Bet League Two season, we are now able to provide a further update on the status of those players who are out of contract.

We are delighted to announce that academy graduates Leon Davies & Tom Knowles have both signed new 2-year contracts, and are therefore contracted until the completion of the 2020/2021 season.

The Club can once again confirm that forward Jabo Ibehre has opted to trigger a 1-year extension of his existing contract, meaning that he too is under contract for the 2019/20 season.

Discussions are ongoing with midfielders Gary Deegan & George Maris, and goalkeeper Finley Iron. A further announcement will be made in due course once these players have made decisions on their futures, having been offered extensions on their current contracts.

Finally, the Club can announce that both Brad Halliday & David Amoo have rejected contract extensions at Cambridge United, and will therefore be leaving the Club upon completion of their contract on June 30th.

Full-Back Brad Halliday, 23, joined the Club from Middlesborough in August 2016, going on to make 123 appearances in all competitions, scoring 2 goals in the process. Winger David Amoo, 28, has spent 2 seasons at the Club, having joined from Partick Thistle at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, scoring 7 goals in 76 appearances. The Club would like to thank both players for their contributions during their respective spells at the Club, and wishes them well for the rest of their careers.

Earlier this month, it was announced that David Forde, Emmanuel Osadebe, Jake Carroll, Lee Watkins, Matt Foy and Sam Squire would also be leaving Cambridge United following the completion of their contracts.

The Club will be keeping supporters up to date on all further squad announcements over the course of the Summer, with a first update being provided by Colin Calderwood, Head Coach, and Ben Strang, Head of Football, next week. We can also confirm that we will be announcing the first new signings for the 2019/20 season, next week.
