Last week, the English Football League Trust relaunched its programme to get more disabled people involved in football and we are delighted that Cambridge United Community Trust are one of the new beneficiaries of the ‘Every Player Counts’ campaign for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons.
Wembley National Stadium Trust - the stadium's charitable foundation - has provided the funding for the 'Every Player Counts' campaign, which it helps run as a joint venture with the EFL Trust.
Every Player Counts, which has been running for three years, has so far helped attract more than 11,000 disabled people into football.
Mike Evans, director of operations at the EFL Trust, said he was proud of the scheme's achievements so far and that the aim now was to extend its reach and the range of opportunities available: "We look forward to hearing the many moving stories that we have become used to as the programme literally changes and improves the lives of its many participants.”
Cambridge United Community Trust were delighted to be one of the new beneficiaries of this campaign which kicked off in September.
Since September, the Community Trust have had 123 participants come to one of our 18 weekly ‘Every Player Counts’ disability sport sessions, engaging more special schools than ever before. Last season, cumulatively, our participants took part in over 2,500 hours of sport and much credit should go to Phil Mullen, the Community Trust’s Disability Sport Officer, for developing the programme over the last few years.
Sam Gomarsall, the Community Trust Manager, said: “We’re delighted to receive this funding for this season and the next and would like to thank the English Football League Trust for their belief in our programme. It will allow us to build our SEN schools offering alongside continuing to develop our community disability sport sessions.
“We want to continue to offering people with disabilities opportunities to get active, make friends and take part in competitions.”
