LOAN | SPURS STARLET JACK ROLES SWITCHES TO U'S UNTIL JANUARY

United add Tottenham Hotspur Attacking Midfielder on loan

20 August 2019

Cambridge United have today competed the loan signing of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jack Roles until 5th January.

The 20-year old arrives at the Abbey Stadium to add further competition to Colin Calderwood's options in midfield for the first half of the 2019/20 season.

Roles is a right footed attacking player who has shown an eye for goal across a number of Tottenham's academy and development age groups, having been with Spurs from the age of six.

Last season he registered eight goals in 19 appearances for the North London club's development side, and two goals in seven European appearances for Tottenham's U19 UEFA Youth League side. Roles also featured in his first senior games for Tottenham over the summer, playing against Manchester United and Juventus in their pre-season tour of Asia for the International Champions Cup.

The youngster has signed at the Abbey in time to be eligible for this evening's clash with Scunthorpe United in Sky Bet League Two, and aims to build on his experience of senior football during his period with United over the coming months.

Pleased to have acquired Roles' talent, U's Head Coach Colin Calderwood commented: "This opportunity has arisen due to Tottenham's ambition for Jack to gain further experience out on loan. Jack showed no hesitation in coming here either and in fact it was his eagerness to come to Cambridge United once we put an offer forward that has allowed the move to be pushed through so quickly. It has also been an easy loan to make happen from a financial point of view.

"Jack Roles scores goals, is the feedback we receive from everybody when they speak about him so we're delighted to have Jack here. We're hopeful he can add further threat to our attacking options."

Meanwhile, Head of Football Ben Strang added: “Jack will add strong competition and is versatile enough to play in numerous positions and formations. We’re very grateful to Tottenham for facilitating this deal and look forward to welcoming Jack into the group.”

Jack will wear the U's number 30 shirt.
