INTRODUCING THE 12TH FAN…COLIN PROCTOR

18 April 2019

Cambridge United are delighted to introduce tomorrow’s 12th Fan and therefore leading the U’s out at the Abbey Stadium against Swindon Town, former FED and now Honorary Director Colin Proctor.

As part of the #UnitedSince1912 campaign, the 12th Fan initiative supported by Mick George, sees a Cambridge United supporter profiled on the Club website, feature in the U’s squad list as number 12 on the programme and lead out the U's at the Abbey Stadium on every match day in 2018/19!

Enjoy a sneak preview of Colin’s interview in the match day programme here:

Congratulations Colin! How long have you been supporting Cambridge United?

I've been supporting the U’s since October 1944. My next door neighbour Hebert Spicer was a committee member and asked if I would like to see a match. I ran in and asked my mother and she was pleased to see the back of me for the afternoon.

Which stands have you watched the games from? Have you always been in the same place or have you moved around the ground? Where do you sit now?

First of all we stood behind the goal at the Corona (NRE) End, not as now but a flat area, making sure we pushed ourselves to the front small wall.

In the late 40's, the Corona End had piles of cinders and waste road chipping put down with a slight slope to enhance the view for the fans. Going on to 1969 the formation of the VPC was set up by the then Chairman David Ruston. A room under the main stand that held 20 supporters.

Having been a member of the supporter’s club and hearing of the said new club, I decided to join. Prices included a buffet, programme and seat in the main stand. After the first year, I joined the committee and helped run the VP's for 35 years.

Having been on the committee of CFU, I was elected as FED in August 2011 and was able to sit in the Director’s box. After stepping down as FED I was elected by the Directors to become an Honorary Director, this was beyond my wildest dream.

What will it mean to you to lead out the team out of the tunnel on Friday?

Leading the team out on Friday will be a dream come true, what a fitting end to a fantastic period of my time at this great club.

Colin’s full interview will be available in tomorrow’s match day programme, available across the ground for just £3. Meanwhile tickets are still available online here, in-store or by calling 01223 566 500.
