INTRODUCING THE 12TH FAN…STU PROUDFOOT

7 September 2018

The 12th Fan for tomorrow’s fixture against Carlisle United is Stu Proudfoot, who was announced as winning the initiative on the same day Harrison Dunk signed a contract extension with the club.

As part of the #UnitedSince1912 campaign, the U's are delighted to introduce the 12th Fan initiative supported by Mick George, which will see a Cambridge United supporter profiled on the Club website and match day programme, occupy the number 12 shirt and lead out the U's at the Abbey Stadium on every match day in 2018/19!

The 23 supporters have been selected at random, having secured their season ticket ahead of the #UnitedSince1912 Early Bird deadline back in May.

Tomorrow's 12th Fan Stu Proudfoot has spoken to the match programme and you can read a preview of his interview here:

Stu, how long have you been supporting the U’s?

My dad took me to my first game against Exeter City who we beat 1-0 and Tony Dennis scored, that was probably just short of 30 years ago. I began going more regularly then when I was in sixth form, and would get the bus into Cambridge from St Neots with some mates. Since then I have been in and out of the country but always followed the club and now I haven’t missed a home game for three or four year now. I go along to the occasional away game too with my sons, who are season ticket holders as well.

What is it about Cambridge United that just keeps you coming back every week?

I mean it’s just my local team and it’s just my club. It’s a natural thing, I’m not sure what really prompted it. Dads tend to take their lads to football and that was certainly the case for me. From that first game, it has just started all from there.

Finally, the chance to lead the U’s out at the Abbey with your two boys. How big will that be for you as a supporter of the club for 30 years?

It’ll be a great moment. I will feel like an over-grown mascot, but it will be a great experience. The boys have been mascots at a game before so it will be a lovely thing to share that with them.
