PROGRAMME PREVIEW:

DESPITE SCORING HIS FIRST COMPETITIVE GOAL IN AMBER AND BLACK, AND IN SOME STYLE, CAMBRIDGE UNITED CAPTAIN GARY DEEGAN STATES HIS ONLY INTEREST IS THE PERFORMANCE OF THE TEAM.

As well as leading the fight within central midfield in typical gritty fashion against Northampton Town at Sixfields on Saturday afternoon, the 30-year old popped up at the perfect moment to dispatch a fantastic curling finish to level late for the U’s and secure a valuable point.

However, Deegan is quick to down play his opening goal in United colours and stresses the importance that his focus remains solely on the output of the team and what he can provide his fellow team mates when crossing the white line.

He said: “It’s not about me. It’s all about the team, of which I was a part of. The team showed fantastic character to fightback from being behind twice in the game. That is good signs for us going forward.

“I didn’t have much going through my mind when the ball fell at my feet, other than just hit it. I’m not up the pitch that high often, so I just hit it and luckily it went in. But as I say that was just a moment in a 90 minute game where you do what you can for the team. That’s the important thing.”
