INTRODUCING THE 12TH FAN…RON LEACH

12TH FAN | NOTTS COUNTY | RON LEACH

10 August 2018

As part of the #UnitedSince1912 campaign, the U’s are delighted to introduce the 12th Fan initiative supported by Mick George, which will see a Cambridge United supporter profiled on the Club website and in the match day programme, occupy the number 12 shirt and lead out the U’s at the Abbey Stadium on every match day in 2018/19!

The 23 supporters have been selected at random, having secured their season ticket ahead of the #UnitedSince1912 Early Bird deadline back in May.

The first 12th Fan for tomorrow’s fixture against Notts County is Ron Leach.

Congratulations Ron, you are the first winner of the 12th Fan and you will be leading the team out on the opening home game. How does that feel?

It feels great, and it is an honour really! It’s something different and I look forward it. I’ve been coming a long time, before we were in the football league. You used to be able to put your comments on the games in the local paper back then, by phoning the Cambridge Evening News. That’s how long ago that was. But anyway I shall thoroughly enjoy my day.

What are your best memories of supporting Cambridge United?

The first time I ever took my wife to a Cambridge United game, was around 1975-ish. We went to Peterborough, which was certainly an interesting place for her to start. After the day, I took my wife back home and I said, whether we won or lost you will never have learnt a whole new language! So that was very good.

Seeing us get through the Wembley matches and get back into the Football League was great.
