Cambridge United Community Trust are pleased to announce they will be holding weekly blind and partially sighted football session starting from Saturday September 9th.
The sessions will be run by qualified blind and partially sighted football coaches every Saturday at Coleridge Community College, Radegund Rd, Cambridge CB1 3RJ.
From 10am-11am will be sessions for adults (over 16) and from 11am-12pm will be sessions for children (under 16). The cost will be free for the first two weeks for each participant and then a charge of £3 per participant. There are also opportunities for volunteers to be involved.
Ben Szreter, Cambridge United Community Trust CEO, said “We have been working alongside several local charities and the Cambridge City Council for several months to make these sessions a reality and are excited to start them.
"We hope it will help provide further opportunities for the blind and partially sighted community around Cambridge to participate in sport and learn physical skills. We’re immensely grateful to the National Lottery as well as private donations for making this possible.”
Roy Turnham, England Blind Football international and local Cambridge resident, said “These sessions provide a fantastic opportunity for blind and partially sighted individuals in the Cambridge area to get active. The sessions are all about showing blind and partially sighted people that there are sporting opportunities out there for them and also teaching physical skills. Hopefully we will also find some talented players in the region.”

This is a brilliant partnership between several organisations in the region and Camsight are very happy to have been involved.
Cambridgeshire FA’s Disability Officer, Hayley Elphee, said “I’m delighted about the new sessions which will provide a great opportunity for blind and visually impaired players to enjoy playing football. It’s also a great opportunity for volunteers to get involved and gain experience supporting this exciting new venture.”
