The midfielder, who turned 26 this week, believes there is a real air of positivity surrounding the U’s who head into today’s clash against Portsmouth with five wins from their previous seven competitive fixtures.

Dunk explained: “The mood is really good at the moment and we are really determined to keep the wins coming to make up for a disappointing start to the season.

“We have kicked on in the last five or six games but we must continue to do that if we want to be looking at the right end of the table. We all want to higher up than we are at the moment.

“Everybody is playing with a good intensity in training and there is competition within the squad for places in the starting line-up. We all want to get on and do a job.”

Having scored his first goal of the season in last week’s victory over the Grecians, Dunk admits it was a nice feeling to find himself back on the scoresheet. However, the winger remains focussed solely on what he can contribute to the team’s overall performance.

“It’s always nice to get a goal. Of course you do all you can for the good of the team and if that means finding the back of the net one game but setting up someone else in another, then that is what I will aim to do. I always look at how many assists I can get rather than goals. Last season I was pleased with the amount of assists, and I do set myself targets.

“But to get my first goal of the season last week was nice. Uche had done really well to hold the ball up and I managed to find a sight at goal to take a quick shot of goal and thankfully it went in.

“More importantly we got the three points at the final whistle and that is the main thing because it continues our good run from the last month or so.”
