MATCH PREVIEW: EXETER CITY

4 March 2016

Abbey Stadium – K.O. 3:00pm

Cambridge United welcome Exeter City to the Abbey Stadium tomorrow afternoon (3:00 KO), looking to build on an impressive victory against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night.

The U’s battled to three points against the Chairboys, with defender Josh Coulson scoring the only goal of the game and boosting the U’s play-off hopes.

Shaun Derry’s men came through the match unscathed injury wise and the only players unavailable for selection are Conor Newton who continues to struggle with a back problem and long-term absentees Barry Corr and Greg Taylor.

The visitors registered a late equalizer against Portsmouth in midweek as they looked to their own play-off hopes alive.

The overall record between the two sides sits in the U’s favour with 24 wins to Exeter’s 16. The Grecians will be looking to avenge this and do the double over Shaun Derry’s men after winning the corresponding fixture 1-0 at St James’ Park in October last year.

The U’s boss is set to line up against the eccentric Paul Tisdale in the technical box on Saturday, who recently surpassed 500 games in charge of the Grecians.

Derry commented: “Paul has been on the touchline for Exeter for a number of years and over 500 games now. There is no way that he’ll change the way he wants his team to play the game.

“I take my hat off to him for that because he sticks to his principles and I have a lot of respect for his achievements.

“For us it is another challenge that we’re looking forward too. I know if we produce the level of performance we are capable of then we can beat anybody on our day.”

Fans are urged to purchase tickets for Saturday’s clash online and in-store before match day to make a £2 saving off match day prices. But tickets will be available up until kick-off from the ticket office.

Meanwhile the U’s have also completed a number of loan deals in the last 24 hours that sees four players departing the club to gain additional game time.

Going out on loan:

Danny Burns  - St Neots – Season loan
Sam McDermid – Soham Town Rangers – One month loan
James Akintunde – Needham Market – Season loan
Danny Carr – Woking – One month loan
