MATCH REPORT: STEVENAGE 1 CAMBRIDGE UTD 2

Cambridge United battled hard to secure their fifth straight win in Sky Bet League Two with a  2-1 away win over Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium.

Piero Mingoia was hand to register a later winner after Ben Kennedy had cancelled out Leon Legge’s first half goal.

An unchanged U’s side began the game and were quickly into a scrappy and hard fought battle against a competitive Stevenage outfit.

Uche Ikpeazu was close to opening the scoring when he got a toe to Leon Legge’s header inside the six yard box but Jamie Jones showed sharp reactions to snatch the ball away from the big striker.

Meanwhile at the other end Dale Gorman fired an 18th minute warning goal wards, when the midfielder’s mid-range effort sailed marginally past Will Norris’ right post.

However, it was the U’s who broke the deadlock with centre back Legge heading firmly past Jones from Mingoia’s corner midway through the half.

Norris ensured the U’s advantage remained intact with a stunning point blank save moments later, and despite spells of pressure from the hosts it remained that way at the break.

However, the hosts levelled inside a minute of the restart when Ben Kennedy twisted and turned inside the U’s area before sneaking a shot in at the near post.

Ikpeazu came close to restoring the advantage on 64 minutes when he broke past one would be tackler before curling a left footed effort wide, and Berry was within fractions too after his unmarked header hit the upright moments later.

However, it was to be Mingoia who would have the final say when the winger pounced on an error by Jones in the Stevenage goal, to lace home an 82nd minute winner.
