MINGOIA LOOKING FORWARD TO OWLS CLASH

Piero Mingoia is relishing the opportunity to take on Sky Bet Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup tomorrow night at the Cambs Glass Stadium.

The midfielder opened his account for the U’s on Saturday afternoon against Barnet and is eagerly awaiting the next chance to take to field in front of the Amber Army against opposition from a higher level.

He said: “Sheffield Wednesday are obviously a very good side. They finished in the Championship play-offs last season and looked strong.

“We’ll really need to be on it and make sure that we are up for the game, because it is always nice to do well in the cups.”

“It was a brilliant atmosphere on Saturday and with it being a hot day, the amber shirts in the crowd stood out even more in the sun. The fans were right behind us which is exactly what we want, because we all want to be one.”

The 24-year old was perfectly positioned to smash home a debut goal against the Bees at the weekend, and admits it was moment he will remember for a while to come.

“To get a goal on my debut for the club is something that obviously you are really hoping to achieve in the lead up to the first game.

“It was a great feeling to get the goal and the fans certainly seemed to enjoy it.

“Obviously it was slightly disappointing we didn’t go on to win the game against Barnet but we take the point and move on. It’s a great game for us to move on to as well against Sheffield Wednesday, and we want to put our best foot forward.”
