U'S SET UP FA FUTSAL CUP TIE WITH MANCHESTER

Having gone through the last 32 last weekend against Southampton FC, Cambridge United continued their exciting FA Futsal Cup against Liverpool, with a 4-0 victory to make the 400 mile round trip more than worthwhile.

Luis Mendonca’s side proved to have too much for their opponents on Merseyside, to set up a thrilling quarter-final clash with one of the biggest club’s in the country, Manchester Futsal Club.

With a late evening kick off, the U’s knew they had to begin the game well and put away any initial nerves or tiredness from the journey which is exactly what they did.

A firm control of the tempo forced Liverpool into mistakes and with ten minutes on the clock, Chadwick gained the ball to play a one-two with Bouttell, before finishing off at the back post to give the visitors the lead.

The former Manchester United man, who is set to appear at the Abbey Stadium again on Monday night, doubled that advantage soon after with a smart finish to outwit the Reds’ goalkeeper.

With only a minute to play in the first half, Liverpool lost concentration in their third of the court and gave the ball away cheaply, which allowed Bouttell to get his name on the scoresheet before the break.

The hosts knew they had it all to do if they were to make it to the quarter finals of the FA Cup, and started the second half well by testing Lima in the Cambridge goal.

However, soon Chadwick got on the ball and was brought down by a Liverpool defender inside the area which allowed Martinez to convert from the six metre spot.

Liverpool kept pressing high and earned two free kicks dangerously close to the U’s area, but it wasn't meant to be, with United’s defence ended the game with the first clean sheet of the season.

The win means Cambridge United will face second placed Manchester Futsal Club in the North Super League on 22nd May in Manchester.

However, before then though the U’s will begin their play-off campaign on home soil against FS Derby on Sunday 1st May (K.O. 11am) at the University of Cambridge Sports Centre. Cambridge United is urging all U’s fans to get tickets for the game and support Luis Mendonca’s men as they bid to make it to the Super League. Click here to buy now!
