CAMBRIDGE UNITED ANNOUNCE ACADEMY U16s CLASH AGAINST CHELSEA AT THE ABBEY STADIUM

8 April 2016

Cambridge United U16s vs Chelsea U16s – Abbey Stadium – Thursday 5th May

Cambridge United are delighted to announce that the third and final Academy clash to be staged at the Abbey Stadium this season will take place against Chelsea FC on Thursday 5th May (K.O. 7:00pm).

Following on from the successful fixtures against Tottenham Hotspurs (October 2015) and Liverpool (February), in which over 900 supporters turned out to support the Under 16s, the U’s can now reveal another match has been confirmed against the Blues next month.

The game marks the tenth anniversary since the re-opening of the U’s youth development programme, and will see the cream of the club’s schoolboy age groups take on not only the country’s most talented young players , but some of the best in the world!

In order to give the players the best possible experience on the night, the club is urging Cambridge United supporters to attend the fixture, as we aim to break the 1,000 barrier. Those who attended the Liverpool match will have witnessed the talent within Cambridge United’s ranks in a 2-2 draw and the Chelsea match provides another opportunity to proudly back the club’s young players.

Tickets for the match are priced as £5 for adults and free for children under 17 and can be purchased online by clicking here.

Looking ahead to the fixture, Professional Development Phase Lead Coach Mark Bonner commented: “We are grateful to Jimmy Fraser at Chelsea for agreeing to this fixture and are excited by the opportunity for our young players to pit their wits against one of the finest academies in our country.

“For those who attended the games against Tottenham and Liverpool earlier in the season, you will have seen a talented and energetic group of individuals who benefit hugely from these occasions.

“We hope to break the 1,000 barrier having come so close in the previous two nights and urge everyone to come and support our young team, as well as enjoying the chance to watch the excellent players on show from one of Europe’s biggest clubs.”

Meanwhile, hospitality packages are also available for those looking to improve their match day experience for just £25. Please click here to book or call 01223 632 125 for further information.
