NEWTON EYES UP TOUGH HARTLEPOOL TUSSLE

15 September 2015

WE WANT TO BUILD ON ORIENT RESULT SAYS NEWTON

Cambridge United midfielder Conor Newton looks ahead to this weekend’s Sky Bet League Two clash against Hartlepool United at Victoria Park.

The 23-year old stated the U’s will not be taking the trip to take on the Monkey Hangers lightly, and preparation from United ahead of Saturday's encounter on the training field will as always be key.

Newton said: “The Hartlepool match is going to be a tough game, especially with it being a long trip away from home.

“We will have to prepare as best we can on the training ground this week, to make sure we go up there and secure three points that we know we are more than capable of doing.”

Meanwhile the former Newcastle and Rotherham midfielder reflected back on Saturday’s 1-1 draw against top of the table Leyton Orient with real positivity.

Having gained a further 90 minutes game time under his own belt as well as earning an all-important Sky Bet League Two point to show for the U’s efforts, Newton feels that the result should provide a solid foundation from which United can build on.

“We have to take the positives from the Leyton Orient game,” he said.

“When you reflect on the game, we held our own during the first half against top of the table, came out at the start of the second played some nice stuff to get the goal, and then held on to make sure we got the 1-1 draw, which was the fair result.

“Results haven’t quite been what we would have all liked over the last couple of weeks, so to secure a point against the League leaders at the weekend is a step in the right direction. We’ll be working on that and look to improve this week.

He added: “I am always happy to get ninety minutes and especially in a role that I enjoy. It was hard work but certainly something I can build on too.”

Tickets and Away Travel are both still available online to the Amber Army who wish to make the trip up to the North East and support Richard Money’s men.
