MONEY EXPECTING "ELECTRIC" ATMOSPHERE FOR LUTON CLASH

3 September 2015

United Boss Issues Rallying Cry To The Amber Army

Manager Richard Money has issued a rallying cry to the Amber Army ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash against Luton, urging U’s supporters to help create an electric atmosphere at the Abbey Stadium.

The U’s go toe-toe with the Hatters this weekend with a bumper crowd expected to fill the ground to back Money’s men, and the United boss stated how valuable the backing of the Amber Army can be in the fixture that carries this amount of intensity.

He reflected on the triumph earlier this year against Luton in the FA Cup Third Round, and was hopeful that the Amber Army can inspire his side on to another memorable victory.

Money said: “If you look back to the cup tie in January, the atmosphere that day was absolutely incredible and of course nobody knew what was coming next in terms of Manchester United. Regardless of that the supporters were incredible.

“The value of having three sides of the Stadium completely full with our fans was clearly evident on that day.

“It is very difficult to evaluate just how much help they gave the team especially during the last 20 minutes of that game when Luton piled on the pressure, and having the whole Habbin Stand as opposed to half and half as it had been before was massive. We need the same this weekend.

“It would be great to be playing in atmosphere that is as electric as it can be.

He added: “The connection between the supporters and the players has been evident over the last three or four games. Certainly in the home games where we didn’t want to get beat in the way that we had, the support was phenomenal and showed us some real empathy.

“I think the fans have seen what we can be both in the pre-season and early season games and like me are just waiting for us to get back to that as quick as we can and we will.

“So that rapport has really grown in recent weeks and there is no better occasion for it to cement itself by what the players do on the pitch and how they react to if off the field than against Luton.”

Meanwhile, Money added the encounter is always one that draws the eye early on when the fixtures are announced during the summer months.

“The fixture has become a real go to game in the calendar over the last three and a half years, because there have been some very exciting, tough and competitive close games between us.

“I certainly don’t see any reason why Saturday will be any different.

“In terms of the intensity of the game and the atmosphere, it is a match that ticks all the boxes for a football fan. It has grown as a fixture, and although I don’t remember in my days as Luton manager this been a particularly big game in their calendar but now I’m the manager of Cambridge it is probably the biggest for both sides.

“It is a match that we all really look forward to.”

Tickets for the game go off sale 8pm tomorrow night and will not be available on match day. Already the Newmarket Road End and North Habbin Stand are close to capacity whilst limited seating is also available in the Main Stand.

The South Habbin is also available to United supporters and the club is advising the Amber Army to purchase tickets as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Click here buy online, head in-store or call 01223 566 500 now.
