BEASANT AIMING TO GRASP OPPORTUNITY WITH BOTH HANDS

U’s keeper Sam Beasant on run in the side

Cambridge United shotstopper Sam Beasant discusses his recent run in the U’s first team side and states he’s working as hard as possible to contribute what he can to the performance of the team.

The 27-year old is delighted to have been given an opportunity to cement a place in the side, as U’s number one Chris Dunn recoveries from a groin injury, and states he’s been working hard in training to help the U’s improve results starting on Saturday against Northampton.

The former Glenn Hoddle Academy man said: “I was disappointed not to be involved earlier on in the season but you just have to keep working hard, stay patient and your opportunity will come. Now it has I want it to keep going.

“It’s important whilst you are not involved that you just keep learning and waiting for your chance. When it comes you have to make sure you take it and you are ready to do what you can for the team.”

“Martin [Davies, Head Goalkeeper Coach] has good training methods and working with Chris everyday on the training ground, I feel like I am learning a lot from them both.”

Although he may not have been involved for an extensive spell so far this season, Beasant has already made a notable contribution having saved two penalties to boast a 100% record with the U’s.

Although he was reluctant to reveal his secrets, he did express his pride for the statistic and said: “I am proud of my penalty record and I have my own tips and secrets that I use.

“I’ll continue to stick by them whilst they are working.”

Meanwhile, assessing the start of the campaign, he added: “The season has been a bit stop start and it is hasn’t quite gone our way at the minute. We need to achieve some consistency and once we do I believe there is enough potential in the team to be flying high.”

Beasant will be in action at the Abbey Stadium for the U’s in tomorrow afternoon’s Sky Bet League Two clash against Northampton Town. Tickets are available online until 1.30pm tomorrow, and will also be on sale in the ticket office right up until kick off.
