U’S COMPLETE DOUBLE LOAN SIGNING

19 November 2015

Terry Kennedy and Ben Williamson join the U’s on loan.

Cambridge United have strengthened their squad today with the double loan signing of Sheffield United defender Terry Kennedy and Gillingham forward Ben Williamson until 3rd January.

Kennedy, 22, switches to the U’s from Bramall Lane and will give United additional defensive options, playing predominantly as a centre back.

Meanwhile, Williamson joins the club from Sky Bet League One side Gillingham and already has previous Football League experience having played over 100 games during spells with Port Vale and Bournemouth.

The pair have signed with the U’s until January and could make their first appearances this weekend against Accrington Stanley, in what will also be new Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry’s home debut.

Commenting on the two loans, the U’s boss said: “Both players will have to fight for the right to play, but the fact they bring additional competition to the group should increase the intensity of the squad.

“Terry has come from a very good football club, and I’m thankful to Nigel [Adkins] and his staff for making the loan achievable.

“He is a very commanding central defender which will put extra pressure on what we already have in that position. Like every player he will have to earn his place in the side, but the competition will certainly be fierce.”

He continued: “The situation is similar with Ben, having come from another good football club in Gillingham, who again I am also very grateful for allowing us to complete the loan.

“In terms of Ben’s performances, I hope he can reproduce the form that we saw during his time with Port Vale. If he is able to strike up a similar relationship with the players we have here, then I’m sure he will do well for us.”
