R COSTINGS CONCLUDE ABBEY STADIUM SPONSORSHIP

13 May 2015

U's in talks for exciting new Stadium deal.

Cambridge United can today confirm that the partnership with R Costings for the naming rights of the Abbey Stadium has come to an end, as an exciting search for a new stadium sponsor begins for the U's.

The club would like to thank R Costings after six years as the U’s primary stadium sponsor, having shown unwavering support during that time and through some of the club's toughest years in the Football Conference.

The St. Ives based legal firm, signed an agreement back in 2009 to take up the naming rights of the Abbey Stadium but the contract between both parties has now reached its conclusion.

Cambridge United are now presented with an exciting opportunity to branch out to further local business and already have a number of potential deals on the table.

With construction work underway to renovate the Abbey Stadium in preparation for the 2015/16 Football League season, this latest announcement will provide one local company the chance to take up one of the club’s most valuable commercial opportunities.

Business Development Manager at Cambridge United, Liz Slack commented, “On behalf of Cambridge United I would like to extend our thanks to R Costings for their support over the last six years.

“The opportunity to renew the naming rights for the Abbey Stadium now provides us with an exciting chance to engage with a company at the highest level within the club.

“There are a number of factors that provide an incredible platform from which a company can showcase its brand, both locally and nationally through the sponsorship of the Abbey Stadium.

“We have secured our place in the Football League for the 2015-2016 season, the Football League have announced that they are to show the Football League highlights programme on Channel 5 at prime time on a Saturday night and development work has now commenced on the facilities at the ground.

“Not only this, but the change will come at a time when the fans of Cambridge United can see tangible improvements to the home of the Amber Army.”

Whilst the immediate improvements to the ground for this summer are already taking place, U’s supporters are being invited to take part in the consultation process for the potential complete redevelopment of the Abbey Stadium next Tuesday.

The Cambridge Community Sporting Trust will be hosting a public exhibition between 12pm and 9pm on 19th May at the Cambridge United Supporter’s Club on Newmarket Road, in which supporters will be given the opportunity to share their opinions on the exciting project.

Prior to that, supporters can also share their views at a similar exhibition about the proposal to submit a planning application for the Cambridge Sporting Village in Trumpington by USS on Monday 18th May at Trumpington Meadows Primary schools.
