BECOME A CAMBRIDGE UNITED APPRENTICE

16 July 2015

U’s searching for the next crop of Apprentices

Cambridge United are seeking applicants for the position of Community Coach Apprentice aged between 17-21 years old, to coach in local schools across Cambridgeshire as part of the U’s youth department.

Apprentices will be required to work 30 hours per week including match days, coaching football as well as a variety of other sports and completing a level 3 Apprenticeship in Supporting Physical Education in Primary Schools.

Natalie Richardson joined Cambridge United’s apprenticeship scheme in 2013, and upon completion of the year-long programme became a full-time member of staff as Girl’s and Women’s Development Officer.

Reflecting on the valuable experience as an apprentice, Natalie commented: “I started the apprenticeship to gain more knowledge in coaching a variety of different sports and it was a step in the door of a professional football club.

“I knew if I worked hard there would be potential opportunities for me to progress after I completed the course.

“I am now pursuing my career with Cambridge United and heading up the girl’s football programmes, it’s a fantastic opportunity for me to continue my personal development and work for a professional football club.”

Meanwhile other successful individuals to progress through the club’s apprenticeship scheme include Ryan Stevens and Luke Shipp, who both now work full-time as coaches within the community for the Cambridge United Youth department.

The U’s are now seeking the next crop of apprentices to complete the programme!

Applicants will need to own a full driving licence and vehicle, have an FA level 1 in coaching football or another sport and have five GCSE’s between A* and C. FA level 2 in Coaching Football or another sport and experience of working with children is preferable but not essential.

Please note that prior to employment, all successful applicants will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, complete a FA Safeguarding Children and FA Emergency First Aid workshop.
