U's earn point at St James Park

CAMBRIDGE United picked up a point against Exeter City after leading 2-0 at St James Park.

United started the first-half brightly, Sullay Kaikai's free-kick was deflected past of the post after three minutes and he came close again on four, firing wide of Christy Pym's goal.

Aaron Davies came close for the hosts on 14 minutes, he couldn't quite connect with his shot from ten yards out.

Kaikai again came close on 21, his strike took a deflection and looped up into Pym's grasp.  Robbie Simpson tried his luck from 30 yards on 23 minutes, his curling strike ending up inches wide.

Exeter's best chance of the half came on 33 minutes, Jamie McAllister forcing Chris Dunn into a good save down to his right.

United thought they had taken the lead on 36, Josh Coulson's header smothered on the line by Pym.  The U's didn't have to wait long to take the lead, Jordan Slew played in Robbie Simpson who ducked past two City defenders and slotted home off the post.

Exeter started the second-half with plenty of intent, Michael Nelson blocking Laim Sercombe's shot on 48 before Chris Dunn got down well to save from Ryan Harley on 49.

United made it two-nil on 50, Johnny Hunt's cross from the left was turned in, past his own goalkeeper by Craig Woodman.

Johnny Hunt almost made it three on 55, he couldn't quite finish after being put through by Sullay Kaikai.  Tom Nicholls halved the deficit on 65, his fierce strike beat Dunn from 12 yards out.

Sullay Kaikai was played through by Jordan Slew on 69, his shot ended up high and wide of Pym's goal.  Chris Dunn was on hand to deny Clinton Morrison on 74, pulling off a fantastic point-blank save to keep the U's in front.

Alex Nicholls dragged his shot wide for City on 80 before Kaikai curled his shot over for United.  The host's found an equaliser on 89, David Wheeler heading home Tom Nicholls' cross from close range.
