PROGRAMME TEASE: MARK ROBERTS

28 December 2015

Match Day Programme vs Barnet FC

Cambridge United captain Mark Roberts is today’s main feature article in the match day programme for the clash with Barnet – Read a sneak preview of his interview here.

The U’s go toe-to-toe with the Bees at the Abbey Stadium at 3pm this afternoon, with tickets still available online and in-store now, and the United skipper feels the game will be an important one during a busy schedule of fixtures.

Sneak preview:

With the U’s playing in their second game in three days this afternoon, and the middle instalment of the Christmas/New Year schedule, United’s skipper believes the fixture list offers a quick fire way to move up the Sky Bet League Two ladder.

Whilst sacrifices do have to be made, Roberts admits this time of year is always a period in which he has enjoyed playing.

He said: “The great thing about Christmas is that when the team are playing well, like we are at the moment, you want to keep playing games as quickly as possible and obviously the current schedule allows us to do that.

“I have always enjoyed playing at Christmas. Sometimes the days throw you off slightly because it is out of ordinary from the usual schedule training wise and with the quick spell of games.

“But this year with us playing two games on Saturday and then one in the middle of the week on Monday, the schedule isn’t too dissimilar from a regular week.

“There is a quick turnaround in games but that is part and parcel of football. I’m sure the Manager will freshen it up, so we have to make sure that we are all on our toes and ready to play. Hopefully we can get the right results to push us further up the table.

“We also have to be patient, do our recovery right and make sure we are living properly over Christmas. It’s a time when all footballers have to make those sacrifices so that their bodies are in the best possible shape.

“The focus is moving the team up the League.”
