Aston Villa Keeper Joins U's

21 March 2014

Benjamin Siegrist joins Cambridge United

CAMBRIDGE United have signed Benjamin Siegrist on loan from Aston Villa for the remainder of the 2013/14 season.

The 22-year-old Swiss goalkeeper has represented his country at  U17, U18, U19, U21 and U23 level, winning the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup in Nigeria.

Siegrist started his career at FC Basel before joining Aston Villa in January 2009 at the age of 16.  The 2011/12 season saw the 6ft 4in stopper win the Barclays Premier Reserve League southern section title with Villa.  Benjamin spent one month on loan at League Two side Burton Albion earlier this season.

U's Director of Football, Jez George, said:  "We obviously couldn't operate with only one goalkeeper until the end of the season and we were keen to resolve this situation well in advance of the loan window closing on Thursday.  We have known about Benjamin since pre-season and are delighted to have been able to sign someone of his calibre.  We are extremely grateful to Aston Villa for their help in enabling the move to happen."

Ben will be available for selection when the U's travel to Salisbury on Wednesday 26th March.
