Elliott double seals win at Cressing Road

CAMBRIDGE Untied overcame Braintree Town, 2-1 at Cressing Road this afternoon.

The U's fell behind after just three minutes, Kenny Davies firing home from the spot after Liam Hughes was penalised for a foul on David Louhoungou just inside the area.

Just two minutes later the U's were level.  A pinpoint through ball from Ryan Donaldson found Tom Elliott, who lifted the ball over Hamann in the Braintree goal and into the back of the net.

Robbie Simpson forced Hamann into a fine stop on nine minues, his fizzing strike from 30 yards tipped round the post.  On 22 minutes, Braintree's Dan Walker thumped the post from 20 yards, just before Harrison Dunk was thwarted by a fine interception after a bursting run into the Braintree box.

On 39 minutes, Michael Bakare's goal-bound strike was superbly tipped around the post by Chris Dunn in the U's goal.

United took the lead on 60 minutes, Harrison Dunk's strike was pushed over the bar by Hamann and from the resulting corner, Tom Elliott headed home Ryan Donaldson's cross.

Chris Dunn was tested twice more in the U's net, saving well from Dan Walker and Michael Bakare.  Luke Berry almost made it three on 79 minutes, his strike ending up just over the bar.
