New Partnership For Abbey Ward

31 January 2014

New partnership to benefit youngsters in the Abbey Ward area.

An exciting new partnership has emerged that will benefit some young people in the Abbey Ward area of Cambridge.

“Abbey People” have linked with Romsey Mill, with Jon Sanders (Pictured far left) being employed as a youth development worker in the Abbey Ward, working with young people who are in need of some extra support.

Now Marshall of Cambridge and Cambridge United Youth & Community Trust (CUYCT) have joined the partnership.

The Marshall Group of Companies has committed to provide funding for the next 3 years to CUYCT to enable them to open their Youth & Community Room to this new group, and support the young people that will be invited to attend with visits from players, along with some potentially exciting opportunities for access to further training.

Jon Sanders said: “I’m really looking forward to running the youth club at Cambridge United which will enable me to work with a number of young people in the Barnwell area, get to know them, support them with issues in their lives and offer them positive activities to get involved in. I’m really thankful to The Marshall Group of Companies, Abbey People and Cambridge United Youth & Community Trust for giving us this opportunity.”

Graham Daniels, CUYCT Chairman said: “It's an honour for Cambridge United to partner with the Marshall Group, Abbey People and Romsey Mill in such an important project that will have a significant impact in our community."

Robert Marshall, Chief Executive of Marshall said: “We at Marshall are very enthusiastic about the Abbey Youth Club. It will provide a great opportunity for young people to do something really valuable and we support it wholeheartedly.”

Rev Stuart Wood, Chair of Abbey People and Chaplain to Cambridge United, said: “It has been exciting to see this partnership emerge – this isn’t about ticking boxes or going through the motions – there is a very real commitment from all the partners to want to make a difference to the lives of these young people. Taking our time to get the right partners working together will in the long run, I am sure, reap far greater rewards.”
