U'S SWOOP FOR LANZONI

28 August 2014

Cambridge United sign Matteo Lanzoni

CAMBRIDGE United have completed the signing of Matteo Lanzoni on a one-year deal.

The 26-year-old defender joins the U's after agreeing the mutual termination of his contract at Yeovil Town.

Italian-born Lanzoni began his career at Sampdoria as a trainee in 2005, signing his first professional contract with the Seria A team in 2008.

Matteo had loan spells with Bari, Sambenedettese, Mantova, Portogruaro, Foggia and Carrarese before his contract expired at Sampdoria in 2013.

The former Italian Under-19 international joined Oldham Athletic in August 2013 before joining Yeovil Town in January 2014.

Commenting on the new signing, Director of Football, Jez George, said: "Matteo will add to our defensive options and provide more competition for places in these positions.  It is a similar situation to Michael Nelson in that we have only been able to make this signing because of the circumstances, in that Matteo first terminated his contract at Yeovil and was a free agent.

Once we knew he was available, and Richard had identified that his attributes fitted the profile of player that we were looking for, we worked quickly to agree a deal to bring Matteo to the club."

Matteo has been handed squad number 12 for the 2014/15 season. The U's new signing spoke exclusively to United Player this morning, CLICK HERE for the video!
