U's defeat Spurs in final pre-season fixture

CAMBRIDGE United overcame a youthful Spurs side this evening at the R Costings Abbey Stadium.

United took the lead on 10 minutes, Greg Taylor was found in space on the left, he surged forward and planted an inch perfect cross into the six-yard box for Appiah to nod home.

Chris Dunn kept Spurs at bay with a fine save from Jon Obika's shot, while Richard Tait timed his tackle perfectly to deny Will Miller for the visitors.

It was 2-0 to the U's on 28 minutes, Appiah once again picked out, this time by Donaldson, who floated a ball into the box for Appiah to head past McGee.

The visitors started the second half on the front foot and pulled a goal back on 54 minutes.  Will Miller found Jon Obika 20 yards out, he turned and drove the ball past Chris Dunn and into the back of the net.

Liam Hughes and Delano Sam-Yorke both had chances to further the U's lead, Hughes heading wide and Sam-Yorke firing over after good work from Greg Taylor.

Oduwe came close for the visitors on 80 minutes, his goal-bound strike deflected by Richard Tait.  The U's held firm and secured the win in front of a bumper pre-season crowd.
