22-year old Joe graduated from the youth academy at Charlton Athletic, making a goalscoring contribution on his first-team debut. That strike in a 4-0 League Cup win against Oxford in August 2013, though, proved his solitary goal in 16 appearances for the Addicks.
In between, he was loaned to Bromley, where he scored four times in eight games, Gillingham, Newport and Southend. He enjoyed two spells with the latter, bulging the net on 12 occasions during his 51 matches for the Roots Hall side. His most memorable strike came at Wembley, with Joe - playing alongside current U’s striker Barry Corr - scoring a remarkable 122nd minute equaliser in the League Two Play-off Final with Wycombe; a game which eventually saw the Shrimpers promoted.
A mobile striker adept at finding space, he had a temporary 15-game stint with Luton last season, netting four goals, prior to signing a one-year deal with the U’s this summer.
