22-year-old stopper Chris Maxwell joined United on a short-term loan which will expire in January 2014.
Despite his age, he has made just short of 100 appearances for Wrexham in the Skrill Premier.
After being courted by Penrhyn Bay at the age of 8, he moved on to Wrexham at 10 and remained with the Welsh outfit for 12 years.
Football League club Fleetwood Town acquired the services of the promising keeper after he was released by Wrexham, although he failed to make an appearance for The Cod Army.
At the end of the 2012/13 season he was loaned back to his previous club, enjoying a successful end to the season culminating in an FA Trophy winner's medal and a Conference play-off final.
Capped by Wales at numerous international levels, Maxwell boasts an impressive 16 caps at under-21 level.
Winning Young Player of The Year twice for Wrexham in both 2009/10 and 2010/11, the 6'2 keeper joins Cambridge with an impressive background.
