Dion Returns for 'Legends' Match

Posted on: Thu 16 Apr 2009
United hero Dion Dublin has offered to bring a team of 'Legends' to play against Cambridge United's youth team, as the finale of the 'Walk for Equality' campaign.

England international Dion, who left The U's in 1992 for Manchester United in a £1million transfer, became aware of Jez and Matt's efforts and is keen to lend his support.

"I started as an apprentice at Norwich City and know first hand how important the development of youth football is," said the former Coventry, Villa and Leicester star. "I still have great affection for Cambridge and my time at the club was special for me and my team-mates."

The match is scheduled for Monday 27th April 2009 at 7pm, the day after the final matches of the Blue Square season.

Many of the great early nineties team have already agreed to come along and grace the Trade Recruitment Stadium pitch again, including Andy Fensome, Liam Daish, Phil Chapple, Michael Cheetham, Gary Clayton, Richard Wilkins, John Taylor and Lee Philpott. Other blasts from the recent and not so recent past are hoping to sign up shortly.

United's Director of Youth Football Jez George is excited at the prospect of reuniting so many U's favourites: "It will be a brilliant occasion and one not to be missed.

"We will be assembling a fabulous array of footballing talent and it promises to be a memorable night for all the fans. We hope to raise a decent sum of money for Youth Development as a result of the game."
