Eight Blue Square Premier fixtures took place during midweek and the relegation battle was thrown open by a number of surprise results.
Meanwhile at the top of the league Stevenage took a further step towards the title after a late Charlie Griffin goal secured a 2-1 win at bottom side Grays. Oxford lost ground on the lead on Wednesday night when drawing 1-1 at fourth placed Rushden. This leaves Stevenage five points clear with nine games remaining.
At the bottom of the league there were wins for Barrow, Gateshead and Forest Green, leaving seven sides fighting to avoid two relegation spots, with Grays well adrift at the bottom. Forest Green are now two points away from safety after a first half flurry earned them a 3-1 win at Salisbury, while Eastbourne fell into the final spot in the bottom three.
Gateshead climbed to seventeenth after a 1-0 home win against an off-form Wrexham side who are now in the bottom half themselves, while Barrow's 2-0 win at Wimbledon lifts them to three points above the drop zone. Tamworth are only a further point ahead after Danny Crow's brace sealed Cambridge United's Wednesday win.
Back at the top end of the table, York cemented their place in fifth after a vital away win at Kidderminster was sealed by Neil Barrett, creating a five point gap between fifth and sixth. The final match of Tuesday saw Mansfield grab a late equaliser at home to Altrincham, but The Stags are now seven points from the top five with only seven games to go.
