The opening six rounds of Blue Square Premier fixtures is now complete, and the division is continuing to show its competitiveness with the form book being upset on a regular basis.

Only five days after Salisbury City assumed the position of league leaders, they were replaced by another surprise outfit in the form of Forest Green Rovers. John Hardiker's goal gave Jim Harvey's side a 1-0 win at Histon and secured a fourth consecutive victory.

Wrexham were the side who ensured Salisbury were top of the league after producing a 4-1 demolition of The Citadels at The Raymond McEnhill Stadium. Jefferson Louis struck twice to reach five goals for the season, while Shaun Whalley also netted twice.

Forest Green's new ground, The New Lawn

Mansfield and Cambridge United are both level on points with Rovers at this stage, each of the sides having claimed four wins and a draw in their opening six outings. Four of Mansfield's fixtures have come on home soil, with maximum points being the outcome each time.

Mark Stallard netted a penalty to add to his injury time winner on Monday, as Billy McEwan's men saw off Grays Athletic 1-0. While Mansfield have twelve home points out of twelve, Grays are still seeking their first away point, and have now lost by that scoreline in their last three matches.

The match at Field Mill was the only of the twelve matches over the weekend to see an attendance of over 2000, a concern to the levels of support in the division.

Oxford, Wrexham and Cambridge United were all away from home and are the three best supported clubs in the Blue Square Premier, but with other sides struggling to reach 2000 or even 1000 fans at home matches on a regular basis, there lies an issue with potential revenue.

Cambridge United's 2-2 draw at Weymouth saw them miss out on the chance to go two points clear after Michael Malcolm's late equaliser for the ten man Terras, who have now won only once in four.

At the opposite end of the table, three sides who have made poor starts all fell to defeats over the weekend. Woking remain bottom of the league with only one point after their 1-0 defeat at Kettering Town, who remain one of only two sides unbeaten after their first home win of the campaign.

Woking's Kingfield Stadium

The other unbeaten side is York City, who had Onome Sodje to thank for their record to remain intact after his stunning strike earned a point at Torquay United in Thursday's televised match. Danny Stevens had opened the scoring in a 1-1 draw less than a minute after coming off the bench.

Lewes and Northwich Victoria are the other sides still in search of a win after they both fell to 5-2 defeats away from home. Burton Albion won for their first time in three as they saw off Lewes despite falling 2-1 behind. Aaron Webster stuck twice after Greg Pearson had reached five goals for the season with the opening goal.

Northwich collapsed to a heavy loss at Crawley Town, and fans of The Vics may begin to fear that their club is in for a repeat of last season's disastrous start. Jamie Cook netted twice, his first from open play this season, as The Red Devils have picked up seven points from the last three outings.

Crawley's Broadfield Stadium

One side that put their poor start behind them was Stevenage Borough, the promotion favourites finally winning for the first time this season after a mere five match winless spell. Former Cambridge United player Fred Murray scored what proved to be the decisive goal in a 3-1 win at Barrow.

Steve McNulty's opening goal was the tenth conceded by Graham Westley's side in under 200 minutes of away football, until Stevenage fought back.

Oxford United are also struggling in the lower reaches of the division with only one win so far, but Levi Reid struck deep into stoppage time to earn them a point away from home against Ebbsfleet United.

Luke Foster had been sent off for the second time in three games prior to former Cambridge United forward Michael Gash opening the scoring. Reid's goal also denied The Fleet a fourth consecutive clean sheet.

Ebbsfleet fans supporting their club had played a crucial role in club activities earlier this week, as members of MyFootballClub agreed to sale of promising striker John Akinde to Bristol City for a fee of £140,000 plus future add-ons. The deal is expected to be completed on Monday.

The final two meetings of the weekend saw Eastbourne secure their first home win of the season by seeing off Altrincham 1-0, Paul Armstrong's solo goal netting the decisive goal. Altrincham fans making their long trip home have now seen only two points collected in their last fie matches.

Kidderminster Harriers were the other team to collect points on Saturday, maintaining their unbeaten home record in a 2-1 victory over Rushden and Diamonds. Russell Penn netted both of Kiddy's goals against a Rushden side who have now fallen to consecutive losses.

After a break of five days since their last matches, Saturday was only the first in a double header of Blue Square Premier action, as eleven matches take place on Tuesday night ahead of a televised fixture on Thursday. With the battles for position at both ends of the table already being eagerly fought, players and fans will be keen to make progress towards their targets for the season as the opening month of the campaign comes to an end.
