The Bank Holiday weekend double header of Blue Square Premier fixtures took place on Saturday as sides aimed to build momentum ahead of further fixtures which take place on Monday.

A flurry of goals saw three teams find the net three times, with a further three scoring four goals as thirty-five goals were scored in 11 fixtures, with an enormous nine penalties being awarded. Five sides still remain unbeaten at this early stage.

Cambridge United continued their winning ways by easing past Eastbourne Borough 3-0 at Priory Lane, The Sports still await their first goals of the season in front of their own fans. It was the first time in their four matches where Gary Brabin's side had won by more than a solitary goal.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Woking lost their fourth match in succession and therefore sit bottom of the division. A stunning Kaid Mohamed strike just after half time was enough to give Forest Green Rovers the points at Kingfield as Kim Grant's men lost by a single goal yet again.

With The U's winning all of their matches and The Cards losing every outing so far, Kettering Town remain unbeaten having remarkably drawn 1-1 in every match of the season so far. In Saturday's lunchtime kick off Sam Smith denied The Poppies the points with a late goal, his third goal in as many games. The crowd of just under 2900 was the largest of the afternoon.

Leading side Cambridge United face Kettering on Monday in the televised match (kick off 4:15), and their next opponents will be the side currently sitting second in the table. Weymouth have dropped only two points so far as goals from Michael Malcolm and Chris McPhee eased The Terras past Lewes 2-0.

Torquay United fell to a second consecutive defeat, slumping 3-1 at Crawley Town. Two penalties proved the difference between the sides, as Steve Evans' men defeated The Gulls for the second consecutive season, having cost Torquay second place in the division last season by beating them in the last game of the season.

Torquay had previously fallen to a 2-0 home defeat against Ebbsfleet United on Monday, and Ebbsfleet continued that form into a stunning 4-0 demolition of Stevenage Borough, leaving the promotion favourites proudly sitting second bottom with one point. John Akinde and Luke Moore both found the net, adding to their strikes in the victory over Torquay.

Histon secured their first victory of the season in dramatic style, claiming a 4-3 victory at home to Nigel Clough's Burton Albion having previously thrown away a three goal advantage.

Danny Wright hit a hattrick to take his season's tally to four, albeit three of those coming from the penalty spot. His fourteen minute hattrick (two from spot kicks) looked to have earned his side the points, until The Brewers staged a fine comeback.

Former Bishops Stortford striker Greg Pearson scored a penalty of his own and John McGrath looked to have secured a draw with five minutes to go, until Jack Midson struck late to earn the points. Histon remain without the suspended Craig Pope until his expected return from apparent retirement.

Ebbsfleet and Histon were joined by Kidderminster Harriers in finding the net on four occasions, seeing off Altrincham while keeping a clean sheet in the process. Danny Kedwell missed his second penalty of the season to cost Grays Athletic a result against Salisbury City, their 1-0 win coming through Matt Tubbs who was more successful from the spot.

Barrow climbed back into the top places of the division with a surprise 2-1 victory against Mansfield Town, who suffered their first loss since returning to nonleague. Jason Walker netted with two minutes to play to secure a come from behind win. The final match of the afternoon saw Northwich Victoria and York City play out a 2-2 draw. York twice came from behind in a match in which both sides benefited from an own goal. The Minstermen remain one of the sides yet to taste defeat after two wins and two draws.

All this came after Wrexham claimed three points in a 2-0 win against Oxford United on Thursday night; the second away match in a row where Oxford were reduced to ten men in the second half, before Steve Evans and Jefferson Louis secured the win for the Welsh side.

The opportunity for points continues on Monday with a full set of twelve fixtures, as squads with additional fitness and strength in depth may prosper with this run of matches in a short space of time
