Q&A - LDV Vans Trophy Final Questions
Club Secretary Andrew Pincher is the latest club official to go 'on the spot' and in the latest Cambridge United club website Q&A he answers some frequently asked questions about the LDV Vans Trophy Final on Sunday 24th March. You can also listen to this interview here.
Q. How restricted is the view from the £10 tickets in the lower tier?
A. The tickets are actually right at the back of the lower section and I think the restriction is the overhang of the middle tier. I don't think there's any problem in seeing the pitch; I think it's more if the ball goes high up in the air or you can't see the top of the stand opposite you, probably. Other than that I don't think there's any restriction on seeing the pitch, it's just an upward vision problem.
Q. From the details published it looks as though discounts are only available to juniors and OAPs, so do students aged 16+ have to pay full price for tickets?
A. They do, I'm afraid. Obviously it's not our decision as to what concessions we can offer, it's a Football League matter so the concessions available are for under-16s and senior citizens only.
Q. Blackpool are running a special train to Cardiff for the final. Did we look into this and, if so, why are we not having one, too?
A. Yes, we did look into this and we spoke to a company about chartering a train. We were told that there was engineering works on the two lines going out from London and also the one by Birmingham wouldn't open in time, plus the fact they had some training and there's a shortage of drivers, so there were all sorts of reasons why they said they couldn't provide a train but it was looked into.
Q. Will there be a downloadable poster available on the website for people to put up in their workplaces/schools etc?
A. Yes there certainly will. We've sent some round to supporters who attended a meeting a few weeks back and it's also on the Tickets page of the site. Also along with that there's one for the Family Day, which we're also keen to promote alongside the LDV because it's a way of attracting supporters who have not been before who are likely to go to a cup final.
The Family Day is the match against Tranmere, on April the 13th. We've reduced prices to £5 for adults and £1 for concessions and Season Ticket holders will not be missed out. Those attending on the day will be put into a hat and the lucky winner will get a season ticket free of charge for next season.
Q. How many tickets have we got for the final and can we get more if we sell out?
A. Yes we can. Our initial allocation was just under 9,500 and if they're going well - because it is all-ticket and there's no way of paying down there on the day - so if we are going well then once we get down to the last couple of thousand it may be that we'll request another couple of blocks.
It'll be in the "unlucky" South end of the ground but I'm confident that we will be the first to win.
Q. How much money will we make from the final?
A. It's very much an unknown, to be honest. We're expecting, with everything including the prize money etc, to get to six figures. It depends on the uptake. That's why we're keen to promote the game, the more fans that go there the more income we will get from that. So, six figures, but it's difficult to put a figure on it if you don't know what expenses are coming out at the Football League end and I understand the stadium take a 15% cut of the gate, so it's difficult to gauge at the moment.
Q. Will figures be published after the event?
A. Providing the board are happy to disclose that information then yes. I think people will be keen to know how much we do make out of it and as long as they're happy to divulge that information then I'm sure it will be divulged.
