A strong all-round central midfielder, Ben Farrell joined the U's in January 2008 on a deal to the end of the season, with the option of a further year.
His career began at Bedford Town at the age of 16 and he was included in the first team squad at that age, but then missed almost two entire seasons between 2004 and 2006 with a troublesome toe injury. Once restored to full fitness, he established himself in the Eagles' first team and began to attract interest from bigger clubs, eventually choosing Cambridge in January 2008.
Ben made his Cambridge United debut in the 5-0 home win against Droylsden on 22nd January 2008 and overcame an ankle injury to become a regular member of the squad, scoring two goals. His performances meant the club not only took up the option of the further year but signed him on a two-year deal to 2010, with the club having the option of a third year.
Injuries and two unfortunate sendings-off have limited Ben's first team impact in 2008-09, and he is finishing the season with a month's loan at Cambridge City.
