A pacy, skilful striker who joined United two games into last season after leaving League Two side Chester City.
Holroyd spent seven years as a schoolboy and scholar in Crewe Alexandra's highly-rated youth academy before joining Chester City for the third year of his scholarship, turning professional in 2006 after scoring 21 goals in 28 starts for their youth team.
He made his first team debut the following season (06-07) and made a total of 22 league appearances, most of which were brief sub appearances although he started seven games. in 2007-08 he made a further 24 league appearances, scoring four times, but became frustrated at the lack of starting opportunities.
After interest during the summer of 2008 from league sides as well as Cambridge United, he agreed a mutual termination of his Chester contract and joined the U's two games into the season. Clearly benefitted from regular games, he scored ten goals by the end of the season and the club took up the option to extend his contract.
Chris started this season in great form, at one time the leading scorer in the country, and he earned his first England C caps, scoring on his second international appearance.
