Ipswich-born Danny Potter began his career at Chelsea and had spells with Colchester United, Exeter and Weymouth before spending four seasons from 2002 to 2006 at Canvey Island.

He was a crowd favourite during Canvey's rise from the Ryman League and their two seasons in the Conference, and when the Essex side withdrew from the Conference at the end of the 2005/06 season he was snapped up by Stevenage Borough.

Danny began as first choice at Broadhall Way but lost his place to Alan Julian after being sent off three games into the season, and Julian's form made it impossible for him to force his way back into the FA Trophy winners' side.

Negotiating his release from Stevenage by mutual consent at the end of his first season, Danny signed for the U's in May 2007 and only missed a handful of games through injury as United finished second and narrowly missed out on promotion with a 1-0 defeat to Exeter in the Wembley Play-off Final.

In December 2007 Danny signed a contract extension to 2010 and was undisputed number one last season as United once again finished second, but suffered double Play-off Final heartbreak as a knee injury two days before the match forced him to miss the promotion decider and United again lost out at the final hurdle.

Following a summer hernia operation, 'Pottsy' was fit for the new season and captained the side for some of the pre-season games.
